It's All Good

  • Aug. 17th, 2009 at 1:10 PM

Whoosh! Summer is almost over and I haven't posted much so here's what's up with me.

My YA novel, MERCY LILY, is with several awesome editors. We've received a few passes, but they've always come with super nice, complimentary comments. Last week, one house extended an invitation to resubmit a revision. They called the subject "captivating" and said they admire my ambition in this project. Not too shabby! I'm planning on streamlining the storyline and getting it back to them ASAP!

My MG novel, "DREAM," has some competition out there by way of recent sales on PM. I began writing my MG in mid 2007, but I wrote 2 NF books alongside it, so the process was one of pecking. It's funny how a story I started writing 2 years ago suddenly has become a trend. I've never written with a trend in mind and never will. I know the sales we're seeing now are projects that were most likely started way back, too. GMTA! I'm really happy with this story and believe it'll find a home once we start shopping it. I'd love to propose a series because this concept is just too fun for one book. We'll see!

My idea file is overflowing and that is always a great thing!

What's up with YOU?

Hey Lisa! Good news---hope Mercy Lily finds a home soon. =)

SEA is in production--first page passes soon--some people are starting to read (nerves)--and they are looking at my fantasy book(s)
Just got home from 9 days in Wyoming too. With no internet! Was wonderful. I want to go back.

Lisa, when I first wrote my DEAD GIRL series about a girl accidently landing in the wrong body, there weren't ANY books like that out there. And there continued to be nothing close to my plot until...you guessed it...20 years later when my book came out. Meg Cabot did NIKKI, Carol Snow did SWITCH and a few more. It's a weird synchroncity of ideas, I think, that some are born into publishing with siblings.

Hope you have news of a sale soon! Glad you're so close!

I'm glad you posted your experience, Linda. Thanks! I like the siblings idea very much!

There's a TV series out now that reminds me of your books...I can't recall the title, but it's a similar premise. That's why I think GMTA...great minds think alike, is a cool thing.

Hi Lisa, I think my MG has been following the same, or a very similar route as your YA. I have seen your posts on the blueboard and have some idea of which houses your YA has visited and our books have definitely crossed paths. I have a revision request at a big house and a new MG that will go out on submission in September.

Best wishes on a sale soon!

Good luck with your submission! I think even if the idea for your MG is similar to others the execution will be different, best of luck!
