TGIF FIVE!

  • May. 16th, 2008 at 10:22 AM

Man, where does the friggin' time go? Here's my first evah Friday Five....

1) I am so counting down the days left of school! 18 days left to go after today. My office job at the middle school was CUT and it's been quite a year but, all is good. I was repositioned and my new job will be in the middle school library. I feel bad that the district has to make cuts, but am very happy to be a Library Tech now! Squee!!

2) I'm working on an outline on a collective biography of Hip-Hop Artists. It's due soon! Almost done. :-)

3) My lovely agent and I have been discussing projects. She'll be proposing my services to write a biography for a series I admire. I feel so fortunate to have her in my corner! In a few weeks, it'll be a year since I signed with the agency. That calls for chocolate!

4) My dining room is covered with stacks of manuscript pages. I've been procrastinating again. What's up with that? Fear of success? Fear of rejection? I need someone to kick my a$$ and remind me that I have several editors who have asked to see this novel. I'm shooting to have it back to wise agent by the end of June. Then, hopefully, it will get out there.

5) I'm 50 pages into a new middle grade novel. Is it totally obnoxious to say that I LOVE this book? Both of my crit groups love it. [info]readerteen loves it. Agent gave it a thumbs-up, too.  No wonder I'm procrastinating on YA revisions.

This was fun! I like the Friday Five. Drinks and sushi tonight. See you on the patio?

If your invitation includes chips and salsa, I'm in!

We will spend our time discussing your new middle grade novel and why you MUST go to LA this summer.

Chips and salsa. Soup and sandwiches, too!

I SOOO want to be there. It's just hard to justify this year $$ wise. But we'll see!

Man... not a very good first attempt. ;-)

Hope the biography thing works out. And the editors love your book. And you stop procrastinating.

Oh... and stop procrastinating.

Thanks for the kick in the butt. I flipped through pages today!

So, what is up with all the ugly eyes? You've kind of branded yourself as Brian the Eye Guy. Work it!

Stop procrastinating! OH, wait--that goes double for me--I've got a middle grade waiting to be finished, but I just have my agent who wants it. Um, must get offline!

Count me in for drinks on the patio (but I'll pass on the sushi, thanks.) You've got a lot going for you! Keep at it, and I wish you success in every corner!!! Get that novel out there!

Thanks, my friend! And we really do need to go for drinks soon. First round is on me. :-)

Hey Lisa! Get moving on those revisions so you can get rolling on that new one! Sounds like a dazzler to me if so many people with GREAT taste love it already! :D

I'm sitting on my cyber patio, toasting you with my (real) margaurita! (Now sign up for LA, will ya?)

Hiya, Pam!

I really WANT to go, but it's going to be hard to justify this year. It'd be so fun to go to cheer Ann Bausum on and hang out. I'll decide soon!

You go, girl! Despite the minor procras, doesn't it feel GREAT to have so many irons in the literary fire?

Hop to it.

Thanks, Jill! You're right. It does feel great even though there are times I question if all this time, energy and work will pay for itself. I have to trust that it will. I hope!

It's so easy to love a new book and so hard to stick with revisions. I'm at the same place myself. Doing lots of procrastinating.

I'm glad I'm not alone. Sometimes I feel very overwhelmed and other times, I'm in the groove and fine multi-tasking.

Did I say I'm looking forward to summer? I am! :-) I need the break from the day job.

Good luck revising and writing!

Congratulations, Lisa! And, no, it's not totally obnoxious. We're always quick to downplay our work. When we love the way something's going, we should get to say so, at least once in a while!

I'm not going to LA this summer, but maybe next year. (Can't remember if I ever answered when you asked me that before!)

Good luck with the biography series!

Thanks, Laura! This WIP is coming along well which is one of the reasons I'm loving it.

I'm still on the fence about LA. :-}

Back to the Hip-Hop outline.
